How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 check here when I crank up the engine.

3. Fuel Pump
